WHY?
So why risk hiding a few Jews in your home when countless others are being killed anyway? Corrie explains in a book she wrote - Father ten Boom, God's Man: "Father often told us, 'Love for the Jews was spoon-fed to me from my very youngest years.' As a result, deep respect for the Jews became a part of our home life. How important childhood impressions are." Corrie was raised in a household where all people had worth, and the big impact on teaching love for the Jews started mainly in 1844, when her grandfather Willem started his weekly prayer meeting for Israel. Corrie's sister also reminded her of this: "I remember Nollie telling me: 'We love the Jews because we can thank them for the two greatest treasures. First of all, a Book written by Jews. It is the Bible and we must thank Israel for it. It is the Book which is almost bursting with good news and glorious promises. All its writers were Jews, except Luke, but he was converted through a Jew.' I want to thank you, the Jews, for this Book. For the Bible has shown me the way to the second blessing which Nollie mentioned. It got me acquainted with my greatest Friend. He was a Jew. On His divine side He was the Son of God, but on His human side He was a Jew. And this Friend is my Saviour!" Corrie was also a religious woman, and was taught to obey God and get to know him through Bible readings. She was taught to be caring and when an opportunity comes to show your faith, take it, and be Godly in your actions. Because of the way she grew up, and the values that were instilled in her, Corrie knew she had to risk her life for others.
